When Looking for Books to Read... - Part 2

We're back with part two for when you're out of books to read! Last week, I posted an article with a list of novels that I enjoyed, in case you can't find something to read. This week, I'm returning with another horde of stories. Again, most of the books listed are fantasy novels, as that is my preferred genre. Don't forget to keep in mind that fantasy is a very vast genre, and two completely different novels can fall under it!

Today, we're going to start the list off with some dystopian novels. Firstly, The Selection series by Kiera Cass. The series consists of five books, the first three surrounding America Singer, the main protagonist. In the kingdom of Illea, as the crown prince comes of age, thirty-five girls are randomly chosen to win his hand. As America finds her name in the Selected, her life is about to change forever. With mystifying romance and a powerful message, this young adult novel is a must-read. It enlightens us about the hidden defects in society, all while building characters and relationships who grow stronger with each chapter.

Another one of my favorite dystopias is the Across the Universe trilogy by Beth Revis. It is another dystopian romance, yet vastly different from The Selection. Aboard the spaceship Godspeed, Amy is a cryogenically frozen human, supposed to wake up in 300 years after the ship reached its destination. But when Elder- a curious teenager and the ship's next leader- accidentally wakes her up fifty years too early, Amy finds herself in a world vastly different from her own. Amy and Elder must uncover the secrets of Godspeed- but will they trust each other? All three books got me enchanted for days- especially the plot twist at the very end. If you like adventure and science fiction then this is definitely the book for you.

The Age of the Legends series by Kelly Armstrong is the most thrilling series I've read. Each page makes you hunger for more- mystery deepening, plot thickening, story enhancing. Every scene is captured with utter realism, as though you were there yourself. The story revolves around Ashyn and Moria, Seeker and Keeper, who set out to quiet the cursed souls, enraged with fury. This time, though, was different. As they are separated by an ambush of the unknown, the sisters embark on a journey to find each other again. Accompanied by a thief and guard, they travel across the wastelands to warn the king- but face legendary monsters on the way.

The last series for today is The Waterfire Saga by Jennifer Donnelly. It consists of four books, each with epic journeys and captured realism. It surrounds Serafina, a mermaid of the Mediterranean. Haunted by dreams of returning evil, Sera finds it hard to only be worried about her betrothal later that day. But when assassins invade the ceremony, Sera knows something is wrong, and now it's up to her to find out what. The writing style in this book is one of my favorite's and story entwined within the silky words made me dream of fantasies I had never envisioned.

This is where we'll have to conclude the list- for now. I'll be out with more book recommendations soon, but not next week. I hope you found yourself some new books for your shelves! Happy reading!
