KOTLC Character Analysis: Wylie Endal
In this Character Analysis Series, I'll be analyzing the characters of my favorite book series: Keeper of the Lost Cities! We'll look at traits they possess, and how we can learn from them. All the characters mentioned below are created by and belong to Shannon Messenger, the author. This post is about Wylie Endal.

Wylie Endal is the son of Prentice and Cyrah Endal, and manifested as a Flasher. He was adopted by Tiergan when the memory break was performed on Prentice and Cyrah faded from the light leap.
Wylie is a very quiet individual. After all the rough turmoils he faced in his youth, he doesn't open up to a lot of people- at least in Sophie's perspective. During the initial phase of their friendship, he even blamed her for all that happened to Prentice.
At first, Wylie doesn't seem like a very important character- but oh, does that change! As each book goes on Wylie's willpower grows, along with his role in the series. It's most definitely something to learn from. To live all those years, knowing your dad is rotting in a prison for something that wasn't his blame, and to see your mother fade away right in front of your eyes...
Not a lot of people can live through that. I know if that happened to me I'd be nothing but an empty shell.
But Wylie stayed strong. He refused to let it shatter him. He accepted what had happened, and didn't collapse into a pile of grief like we probably would have. Sometimes bad things happen. Sometimes you want to shrivel on the inside and be banished from the phase of the Earth. But instead of sitting and moping about it, he rose. Sure, he was heartbroken. But that wouldn't stop him from being his unique self, and living life as normally as he possibly could.
That's how we should be. It's harder than we can ever imagine. Even I don't understand the intensity of grief as I write this. I do know, though, is that we should never let it take over our souls. Whenever your sadness consumes you, think of Wylie.
Think of all the things he's been through, and how he still held onto a flicker of hope.
His sacrifices for the Black Swan.
His compassion for those he calls his friends.
The fierceness he is willing to show to some. (*cough* Linh *cough*)
How he excelled in Foxfire, continuing his Elite Levels.
If he can do it, so can we. Wylie can control light, so can we- by staying positive and embracing whatever life throws at us.
