KOTLC Character Analysis: Keefe Sencen
In this Character Analysis Series, I'll be analyzing the characters of my favorite book series: Keeper of the Lost Cities! We'll look at traits they possess, and how we can learn from them. All the characters mentioned below are created by and belong to Shannon Messenger, the author. This post is about Keefe Sencen.
WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Keefe Sencen is one of Sophie's good friends. He manifested as an Empath, has photographic memory, and can mimic voices to perfection. Despite his care-free personality, Keefe is one of the strongest characters in the series.
Keefe's way of coping through hard times is by laughing it off. He rarely lets anyone see his other, troubled side; in fact the only elf who has done so is Sophie. He refuses to let anyone feel his pain, much less admit it. He proves that sometimes, when you think you know someone very well, you might not know them at all.
On the other hand, Keefe is quite the mischievous persona. He makes a joke out of everything, and finds a reason to smile even through the darkest of times. He is also the master of pranks, including the Great Gulon Incident, and annoying Dame Alina. He shows that everyone can have a bit of fun now and then, without hurting anyone.
For a brief period of time, Keefe joined the Neverseen, essentially ruining his relationship with his friends. When he returned, it is needless to say things weren't as they were before, but Keefe started to make amends. He is never hesitant to admit his wrongdoings, and will always try to fix them later. He teaches us that it is never too late to mend your mistakes.
Keefe is also very reckless. He tends to make rash decisions without anyone's consent. A lot of these decisions led the Black Swan to tough spots. He warns us that sometimes you have no choice to pay the price of your carelessness.
Overall, Keefe has an amazing personality, and is willing to do anything for his close friends, much like the others. Keefe may have a tough life, but he does his best to bring light to it.
