My Inner Demons: A Dae-Mos Awaited
Let's admit it, we all saw this coming. Being the fantasical fangirl I am, of course I had to write an article about Aphmau's most recent Minecraft Roleplay: My Inner Demons.
Last Saturday, the Season 1 finale aired, leaving all of us on an unbelievable cliffhanger. Worse yet, we don't even know when- or if- Season 2 is coming! This article is about all things Daemos- a few more character analyses to keep you thinking deeper.
WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Ever since I began reading my first stories, I've always found ways to connect to them personally. Whenever I feel a particular emotion, I always relate it to a character of one of my favorite fandoms. What fandom I relate to depends on my age: when I was five it was The Magic Treehouse and Little Einsteins, when I was eleven it was Disney Descendants and Harry Potter, and now it's Keeper of the Lost Cities and Aphmau. This is the reason I always try to understand every character of the story; it makes watching, or reading, it more enjoyable, and it helps me through some tough times in life as well. Whatever I'm feeling at the moment- happiness, anger, sadness, pain... I always have a character on the ready to make it better. That's what I want to do today- list out some ways My Inner Demons can help us. Rather than just things that we can learn from the characters, we'll explore their moments that we can relate to- happy or sad. The six characters I'll look at today are Ava and our five favorite Daemos: Asch, Leif, Pierce, This and Noi.
Firstly, our beloved Princess Ava. Anna has had her share of hard times. She's a very antisocial person, and doesn't get out much. She's was teased all her school life, and didn't have any friends to help her through it. Despite all of that, she never failed to be kind to others, however let obvious it seems. She's willing to help anyone, even people she just met. Ava could have been snarky and uptight and cold, but she's not. Even though she tended to be alone most of the time, and even though that affected her, she never let it be who she was.
When we're alone or hurt, it makes us upset. And when we're upset, it makes us do hurtful things. I'm not saying Ava is completely flawless, but it does help to think of her. She found friends, right? You won't remain alone forever either. Until then, be calm, just like Ava. If she can do it so can you.
Next, Prince Asch- AKA the Fire King. Yes, he lacks any manners whatsoever. Yes, he has a horrible temper. But Asch is a risk-taker. He's not scared of anything, and even if he is, he doesn't show it. He's impulsive, and acts on instinct. All the same, he's also very thoughtful, and knows how to handle a major situation- all while being responsible for an entire kingdom.
We have to be responsible as well. That doesn't mean we can take risk sometimes either! As long as you know when and when not to gain a rebellious streak, like Asch, you'll be fine. Life is flavorless without a challenge, and thinking of Asch makes doing them a lot more fun. Again, do not use this as an excuse to do something drastic, say skipping school, just because you want to be like Asch. Yes, Asch would probably do this, but you shouldn't. Remember, smart choices.
Then we come to Leif, who prefers destruction. For a majority of the season, he was trying to kill Ava, but let's leave all of that aside. Leif is logical. He doesn't rely on books or knowledge, he relies on his brain. Rather than the standard way of approaching tasks, he'd do things his own way, allowing him to succeed in places even Rhys can't. This trait is actually really important for our growing century. We can't find the answer to everything in a book or on the Internet. And when we're in a deadlock like this think, What would Leif do? Sometimes, a situation requires you to let go of all your bookish knowledge, and use a little logic instead.
Next comes Pierce, the much loved, strong, silent one. One quality Pierce has is neutrality. He is not one to spell out his emotions, instead staying submissive, and observing from background. This doesn't make him any less of a threat though-if your enemies can't read you, they can never predict your moves.
In life, it doesn't help to be an emotion wreck. Even though our insides may be boiling up a hurricane, we need to calm down. Take a deep breath. Think of Pierce. Whatever brings you down to earth do you can have properly assess the situation. Then we can make wise, yet powerful, decisions. Pierce is hard to master but when you do, no one will see it coming.
We talked about streets smarts, but now we loop back to the books: Rhys. Needless to say,Rhys is the smartest and the more responsible one there. He is the fast learner and to him books are his magic. Not all of us possess this trait, and that's fine. It's not the only thing of Rhys we can all relate to.
Rhys thrives to know more. He wants to get to the bottom of every situation, but keeps track of his limitation all the same. He also tones down his temper, and doesn't get angered easily.
We can take both of these things from him. Think creative- think Rhys. And when you're mad, let your mind go straight to him. He has to deal with four rebellious Daemos define him every day, and only went rage-frenzy twice or thrice in the season. I've said it once and I'll say it again: If he can do it, so can you.
Last but not least, Noi. Noi is sweet, charming, sensitive, and eager to please. He's always trying to please Ava, and serve the other Daemos, even though they consider him the weakest one there. Just because you are helpful doesn't mean you are weak, and Noi is proof of that. If someone manages to take advantage of your goodwill, relate to Noi. He never let any of his downfalls stop his cheerfulness, and neither should you. Be careful as of who you help, what you help them with and how much you help them, and you'll have a sense of pride and appreciation. Stau humble, like Noi always is, and one day, when you need it, help will come to you.
There we are- all six! Those were my interpretations of the My Inner Demons protagonists. What are yours?
