Legacy KOTLC: Out in the World

The day we've been waiting for has finally arrived: the release of Legacy- Keeper of the Lost Cities. For an agonizing year, we have been waiting in despair for this much-awaited eighth book of the KOTLC series. Now, it's actually here. A lot have you have probably settled in a good place on your bed to stay for the next few days as you finish the book, but for those who have got to wait a few weeks like I do, this article is for you. I'm going to theorize Legacy EVEN MORE, looking into each and every meticulous detail that I possibly can. Again, I'm not that good at theories unless they are plain in sight. I'll try my hardest to make them good, though!

WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

Firstly, the rejected titles. How could they have played a role to the book? The first title is Inception. Obviously, this has something to do with Sophie's genetics, maybe even her biological parents. Considering the end of Flashback, as well as the first chapter of Legacy, I have a feeling that Sophie will get closer to finding out who her parents are. Another thing we might forget about this title is the alternate meaning of the word 'inception'. An inception is the starting point of an institution, which fits as the Black Swan technically satisfies that. Maybe, we'll get to know more about the organization's past, ore maybe Legacy is a book where they have to start afresh!
The next title is Deadlock. Shannon Messenger didn't want to use this title as she didn't want her readers to assume someone dies in the book. A deadlock is a disagreement between two parties where no progress can be made. This could be a showdown between the Black Swan and the Neverseen. They have been feuding for years, each growing more powerful by the minute. I think that in Legacy, both parties realize that there is no easy way of defeating the other without looping back to square one, where everything began. The Black Swan will need to strategize in this book, and grow smarter to be able to deceive the Neverseen. Maybe, the ending of Legacy will be different from how they usually are, that is, a book full of mystery, a final Neverseen showdown, the Neverseen doing something unexpected, the Black Swan winning but getting nowhere, cliffhanger. While the book will most definitely end with a cliffhanger, maybe the Black Swan deceives the Neverseen for a change. This could potentially reveal lots of secrets, each making less sense than the other, thus leaving way for many cliffs to leave us hanging. This can be supported by Legacy's blurb, which quotes 'But after a lifetime of lies, sometimes the truth is the most dangerous discovery'. The Neverseen has been feeding Sophie and her friends a lot of lies, so perhaps this is the book is when they first get some truth for a change.
The third rejected title is Rematch. Shannon Messenger didn't use this one as it didn't quite fit the theme of the previous books, also she knew her fans would have a strong reaction to anything with the word 'match' in it. Boy, she was right. While Rematch definitely did but a different complexion on Sophie's harem dilemma, there are other things it could possibly be. To some extent, it references her matchmaking crisis, but could also possibly be a rematch between the Black Swan and the Neverseen. A new battle to prove themselves yet again.

I just realized how long this article is getting! So to close it off, I'm announcing some exciting news: I'll be contributing to a KOTLC Fanfic coming out soon! The fanfic is going to be called Reborn: A KOTLC Fanfiction and will be written by my friend and I. We're planning to put out the first chapter this Sunday, but nothing is confirmed YET. I'll be posting more about it on my twitter soon, so keep a lookout for that if you're interested! The fanfic will be on Quotev.com, and I will be going by my online alias, Evelyn Layla. I hope you consider reading it!
Also, if you've got Legacy (lucky), happy reading!
