The Eye of a Flower
Today I give y'all a poem that I wrote recently! Hope you enjoy!
The Eye of a Flower
Deepika Jayasekar
Look at the Marigolds
A whole story's untold
And each dandelion that flies
Up above the sky
Carries a wish from one's soul
Pure as the Marigolds...
As the Water Lilies dance
And the Lotuses float
The dragonflies buzz
As though awaiting their boats
Made of silky pink petals
And yellow-orange fuzz
That picturesque perfection
With not a single dunce!
The Snapdragons prowl
As vicious as can be
While the Lavenders sway
Ever so gracefully.
Can you hear their roar
From the distance afar?
Or can you fell their poise
Like a little light in a jar?
Then of course the red Rose
And the pretty Violets blue
On keeps an everlasting pose
The other collects morning dew.
Two contrasting personalities;
One demands respect
The latter is quite shy
Sweet and innocent until its death.
All this beauty that surrounds us
But do humans pay heed?
They crush the poor meadows
Full of venom, poison and greed!
Along comes a man
His chewing gum he spits
Right onto a little Daisy-
Smack! It's a hit!
Then a vain lady
Glittering with jewels
Hunts down every last Daffodil
Playing by her own rules.
She doesn't spare a single one
No matter how hard they plead;
They now belong to her garland
She's as spoilt as can be!
And lastly the child
He runs about freely
Until he sees a Sunflower
Looking to the sky keenly.
"Ho!" He says,
And then with no reason
He chops off all its petals,
What a dastardly treason!
What is this I'm told?
Are humans monsters until they're old?
The must learn to change in time
Rectify this sinful crime
And then lo and behold, the petals slowly unfold
To reveal a meadow of pure Marigolds.
