The Perfect Birthday Present
It is always so difficult to get that perfect gift for someone you love; a friend who was by your side, a family member who holds you close to their heart. You may hopelessly roam the store, or be in a rush to get to the party. But whether in the last minute or in advance you should always put thought into a gift.
First, you have to consider who you are giving the gift to. If it is a young child or a toddler, they won't realize the value of a handmade gift, and would probably like something they can interact with instead. Even so, don't get them some random toy that caught your eye, give them something that they would be interested in. For example, it would make no sense to give a kid who likes soft-toys a set of action figures. And though plushies often seem like the easiest gift solution, you have to keep in mind that children are very direct. If they don't like something, they'll be sure to point it out, and not bother what others think. Why bother going through that when you could just choose something they'd like in the first place?
Also, be sure to emphasize the gift was meant for them. It fills them with joy; I've seen the adorable look on their faces before! Don't exaggerate either, as it's always better to tell the truth. They will like you better if you are natural, and if you just be yourself. Children aren't quick to judge, and will always embrace who you are.
If you're buying something for an infant, buy something useful. They obviously will not understand what a gift is, but you should put in effort nevertheless. It fills one with joy to see a baby laugh, and it will give you something to look back on when they grow up.
As people grow up, they will begin to understand the value of presents. They'll learn that parties are to bond with friends and family, not to receive tons of free stuff. This is an even better reason to give them heartfelt gifts. After one hits their teen years, you could make handmade gifts. Maybe earrings or other pieces of jewelry, or a painting of a memory. If you aren't confident with your crafting skills, then pay attention to what they are interested in at the moment. A teen would be head over heels if they got merch that referenced their favorite show or game. Feel free to add in a handmade card to make the gesture so much sweeter.
As one becomes an adult, they would be completely satisfied if their birthday was acknowledged at all. So the best thing to do is make a gift purely out of love. It doesn't matter if it comes out sloppy, or isn't breathtaking; it will be perfect in their eyes.
