A World Without the Ocean

Your eyes are closed. The summer breeze in your face, sand nestling between your toes. Every breath you take is heaven as the salty air fills your lungs. You hear the waves thrashing against the shore, then retreating back to the depths with anything they could grab. You kneel to pick up the wet sand, slowly opening your eyes as you clump it together into a cake. As you look up, you see the sun beautifully setting behind the horizon, resting for the night. But then the scenery disappears. All you find is darkness.
A world without the ocean would not be a pleasant one, if it would even exist for that matter. Every entity of life depends on it; without it, the world wouldn't last a second. Many millennia ago, the first organisms emerged from the water. If it weren't for those tiny creatures, we wouldn't be here today.
The ocean provides us a source of food, providing some a source of income. Alongside, it gives us the salt we use to flavor that food. In the shallows of the waters lie coral reefs, and as fragile as they may seem, they support life so vast and breathtaking they surpass all other biomes on our planet. Not only that, but they act as a barrier, preventing storms from being too devastating when they hit inland.
Head down deeper and you will find abundant minerals and resources, waiting to be mined. The ocean even allows ships to sail across to transport these. It allows islands to thrive and exhibit their beauty. It acts as a reservoir for precipitation from afar. It quietly accepts all forms of trash we put in it with no complaint, only letting out a silent plea for help.
The ocean knows the consequences of the destruction humans put upon it. And yet it only gives, not thinking for a moment about itself. It gives us inspiration, equips us for survival, all while sustaining every being of life! Yet humans continue to disregard the ocean, taking it for granted, ignoring the grave mistake they have made and not looking for solutions. The ocean gives us so much; why do we shove it away like it means nothing? Do we not realize the fate that will befall our world as we do so?
